Canfield Drafted by the Super Bowl Champion Saints
April 24, 2010
Corvallis, Ore. - For the tenth consecutive year, Oregon State has had a former football student-athlete selected in the NFL Draft, as quarterback Sean Canfield was picked by the New Orleans Saints in the seventh round. He is the first Beaver quarterback drafted since Derek Anderson was a sixth round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2005.
Canfield played his senior year at OSU at 6-4 214 pounds. The left-hander started 24 games and ranks fourth at OSU for career passing yards with 5,970 and touchdowns with 38. He was the first Beaver quarterback ever to be named Pac-10 Conference First Team in 2009 by a vote of the league's head coaches. The OSU graduate in sociology also won the Mercedes Benz College Football All-Star Quarterback Challenge in January.
When Canfield reports to camp, he will be the third Beaver quarterback currently in the NFL. Matt Moore (2005-06), who signed as a free agent in 2007 with the Dallas Cowboys, is projected to be the starter this season for Carolina Panthers and Anderson is entering his first season with the Arizona Cardinals.
