The Steal in Tucson
April 23, 2009
Corvallis, Ore. -
Well, it was a nice run, but I guess it had to end somewhere. It looked as if Arizona was going to end Oregon State’s six-game Pac-10 win streak when kicker Justin Kahut missed the game-tying extra point with 3:58 remaining to leave the Wildcats in the lead 17-16.
But, the Beaver defense gave the Sean Canfield-led offense one more opportunity, but with no timeouts when OSU took the ball over with 1:19 left at its own 20-yard line. Backup running back Jeremy Francis caught two passes to move the ball to the 45 and then the unbelievable happened. Inexplicably Sammie Stroughter got behind the Wildcat secondary and caught a 47-yard bomb from Canfield to give OSU the chance to win. Kahut made amends and the Beavers stole the game in Tucson.
