Jordan Poyer and Markus Wheaton Heading for NFL Combine
Feb. 7, 2013
Corvallis, Ore. -
Oregon State will be well-represented at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine with All-Americans Jordan Poyer and Markus Wheaton being invited. The event is Feb. 20-26 in Indianapolis. Both will also participate, along with many of their former teammates, in the Beavers’ Pro Day March 15 from the Sports Performance Center and the Merritt Truax Indoor Center on OSU’s campus.
Both Poyer and Wheaton are expected to be high NFL Draft picks after sensational careers for Mike Riley’s crew. The duo will participate in a number of speed and strength drills as well as football instincts.
Poyer (@j_Poyer14) was a consensus All-American and semifinalist for the Bednarik (top defensive player) and Thorpe (top cornerback) Awards. The Pac-12 First Team honoree tied for second in the nation last season with seven interceptions. He is rated among the elite cornerbacks entering the Draft.
Wheaton (@twheat002) left OSU as the career record holder for receptions with 227, tied for first for single season receptions with James Rodgers with 91, second for single season receiving touchdowns with 11 in 2012 and third for career receiving yards with 2,994.
The NFL Combine will be televised by the NFL Network. The NFL Draft is April 25-27 and will air on ESPN and the NFL Network.
The Beavers finished 9-4 in the recently completed season and open the 2013 campaign Aug. 31 against Football Championship Series power Eastern Washington at Reser Stadium.
