CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State forwards Eric Moreland and Rhys Murphy were both granted a medical hardship for the 2010-11 season, the Pacific-12 Conference announced this week.

Both student-athletes played in four games apiece last season before suffering season-ending injuries that required surgery. Moreland took a hard fall on a blocked shot in a game at Colorado on Dec. 4, 2010, and dislocated his left shoulder, while Murphy had a broken bone in his left wrist.

They qualified for a medical hardship per NCAA Rules - 14.2.4 - a student-athlete is eligible if he/she has participated in a maximum of 30 percent of the scheduled games. The medical hardship was granted by the Pac-12 Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee.

The 6-foot-10 Moreland showed his defensive presence under the basket with five rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals in just 12 minutes of action in games against Seattle University, Howard, Utah Valley and Colorado. He will be a redshirt freshman for the upcoming season.

Murphy, who was named to the 2011 Pac-10 All-Academic First Team with a 3.67 GPA in Pre-Business, provides the Beavers with another perimeter shooter and all-around athlete and will be a redshirt sophomore this season after redshirting his true freshman season when he suffered a foot injury on the first day of official practice.

The Beavers 2011-12 roster will now consist of one senior (Kevin McShane), three juniors (Angus Brandt, Joe Burton, Jared Cunningham), six sophomores (Chris Brown, Devon Collier, walk-on Daniel Jones, Roberto Nelson, Ahmad Starks, Murphy) and three freshmen (Challe Barton, Daniel Gomis, Moreland).
