Rhys Murphy, Angus Brandt Earn Pac-12 All-Academic Honors
April 5, 2012
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State forward Rhys Murphy was selected to the Pac-12 Conference Men's Basketball All-Academic First Team for the second consecutive year and center Angus Brandt earned honorable mention honors, Commissioner Larry Scott announced on Thursday. Oregon State men's basketball players have now earned conference All-Academic honors 21 times since the recognition began in 1985-86. It's the ninth consecutive year a Beavers' student-athlete has been named to the Pac-12 Men's Basketball All-Academic Teams and third straight year someone has received first team honors. Murphy, who has a 3.77 GPA in Psychology, played in 18 games this season and averaged 1.6 points per game after missing all but four games last season with a broken bone in his wrist that required surgery. He joins Teo Alibegovic (1990, '91) and J.D. Vetter (1995, '96) as Oregon State student-athletes to make the first team on two occasions. Brandt has a 3.08 GPA in Exercise and Sports Science and earned All-Academic recognition for the second straight year after being named to the first team last season. He played in all 36 games, averaging 9.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in 35 starts, and led the Beavers in three-point field goal percentage (.492). PAC-12 ALL-ACADEMIC -- MEN'S BASKETBALL First Team
