Sam Gaviglio Named To NCBWA Preseason All-America Second Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Oregon State sophomore right-handed pitcher Sam Gaviglio has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason All-America second team as announced by the organization Wednesday.
Gaviglio is coming off an outstanding freshman season, where he went 10-1 with a 2.73 earned run average. He ended the season on a seven-game win streak, including his last start of the 2009 campaign, coming in a victory over Texas A&M at the Fort Worth Regional. Gaviglio struck out 55 in 62 2/3 innings, and walked just nine. He scattered 45 hits in 18 appearances, six of which were starts, and opponents batted just .200 against him.
After his outstanding freshman campaign, Gaviglio was recognized by a number of organizations. He was named to the Freshman All-America First Team by Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball, the NCBWA and Ping! Baseball. Gaviglio, a native of Ashland, Ore., was also selected to Baseball America's Freshman All-America Second Team.
After finishing the season tied for second in the Pac-10 with 10 victories, Gaviglio was also named to the conference's honorable mention team.
