Dec. 12, 2012
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced its preseason All-America Team on Wednesday and Oregon State sophomore outfielder Michael Conforto has been named to the first team. Conforto was a consensus Freshman All-American in 2012 and became the first true freshman in OSU history to be named an All-American when he was a second teamer by the NCBWA, Baseball America and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ACBA). He batted a team-leading .349 with a Pac-12 Conference leading 76 runs driven in - which also set an OSU single-season record - and tied for the league lead with 13 home runs, eight of which came against conference foes. He ended the season as one of just two players in the Pac-12 to rank in the top 10 in batting average (eighth), runs batted in (first and home runs (tied for first). Conforto was also named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and the national Hitter of the Year by both Louisville Slugger, NCBWA and the ABCA. Conforto is one of four Pac-12 players to named to the NCBWA's first team and one of six overall on the three teams. He is the only position player from the Pac-12 to be recognized.
