Baseball Summer In Review

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The summer collegiate baseball season has officially come to a close. In just a few short weeks, members of the Oregon State baseball team will return to campus to prepare for fall workouts and the 2010 season.
Here's how members of the 2009 team did this past summer.
Carter Bell - Played in 10 games for Corvallis of the West Coast League ... Batted .303 with two doubles and three RBI ... Walked six times and stole five bases in six attempts.
Mike Chiarelli - Played in 31 games, starting 25 for Bellingham of the West Coast League ... Batted .293 with seven doubles and two home runs ... Drove in 14 and walked seven times.
Rob Folsom - Appeared in 17 games for the Wilson Tobs of the Coastal Plain League ... Batted .180 with two doubles and 12 runs batted in ... Walked eight times.
Sam Gaviglio - Appeared in two games, both starts, for Corvallis of the West Coast League ... Went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, allowing no runs and just seven hits in 13 innings ... Struck out 12 while walking one.
Blake Gibbs - Played in and started 20 games for the Albany Dutchmen of the New York Collegiate Baseball League ... Batted .271 with two doubles and six home runs ... Drove in 19 and finished with a .557 slugging percentage ... Walked nine times.
Ryan Gorton - Played in 23 games for Wenatchee of the West Coast League, starting in 21 ... Batted .289 with 10 RBI and 10 walks ... Made 10 pitching appearances, all in relief, and went 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA ... Saved three games ... Allowed 10 hits and two unearned in 13 1/3 innings of work ... Struck out 13 and walked four.
Brandon Hayes - Appeared in 37 games for Humboldt of the West Coast League Tri-Cities, making 32 starts and helping guide the team to a league championship ... Batted .380 with five doubles, four triples and three home runs ... Drove in 25 and had a .600 slugging percentage while walking 16 times.
Brad Kidd - Played in 12 games for Athletes in Action in Alaska, making three starts ... Went 0-3 with a 7.07 ERA ... Worked 28 innings, allowing 41 hits and 29 runs ... Struck out 16.
Logan Lotti - Appeared in 40 games for Humboldt of the West Coast League Tri-Cities, making 33 starts and helping guide the team to a league championship ... Batted .288 with nine doubles, a triple and 19 RBI.
Michael Miller - Appeared in 39 games, 34 starts, for the Peninsula Oilers of the Alaskan Baseball League ... Batted .213 with two doubles, two triples and seven runs batted in ... Walked 12 times and stole nine bases in 12 attempts.
James Nygren - Made five appearances, including three starts, for the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League ... Went 2-0 with a 2.21 ERA in 20 1/3 innings, racking up one save and 13 strikeouts while opponents hit .211 against him.
Greg Peavey ¬- Appeared in 10 games for Yarmouth-Dennis of the Cape Cod League, making five starts ... Posted a 3-2 record with a 2.75 ERA ... Worked 36 innings, striking out 35 ... Issued seven walks and allowed 34 hits ... Opponents batted .255 against him.
Jorge Reyes - Made six appearances for Orleans of the Cape Cod League, starting five times ... Went 1-2 with a 1.06 ERA in 34 innings ... Struck out 40 while walking 10 ... Allowed 19 hits while opponents batted .160 against him ... At the conclusion of the summer, signed a professional contract with the San Diego Padres.
Kevin Rhoderick - Made 17 appearances for Yarmouth-Dennis of the Cape Cod League, all in relief ... Posted a 2-0 record with a 4.19 ERA ... Threw 19 1/3 innings, finishing with one save ... Struck out 30 to six walks and allowed 14 hits ... Opponents batted .191 against him.
Tanner Robles - Made five appearances, one start, for Bourne of the Cape Cod League ... Went 0-2 with a 4.97 ERA in 12 2/3 innings ... Struck out 12 while walking nine and allowing 12 hits.
Stefen Romero - Helped lead Bourne to its first Cape Cod League title ... Made 35 appearances, including 21 starts at first base ... Batted .234 with five doubles, one triple and five home runs ... Drove in 23 while walking eight times ... Played in four playoff games, going 6-for-15 (.400) with a double and three RBI.
Nick Stiltner - Made 10 appearances for Bend of the West Coast League, including three starts ... Went 1-1 with a 2.73 ERA ... Worked 29 2/3 innings, scattering 28 hits and 11 runs, nine of which were earned ... Opponents hit .255 against him and he had 26 strikeouts.
Andrew Susac (will be a member of the club in 2010) - Played in 33 games, starting 29 times ... Batted .205 with four doubles, a triple and two home runs ... Drove in 13 and walked 10 times ... Threw out 13-of-30 baserunners (43.3 percent) attempting to steal against him and picked off five runners.
John Tommasini - Helped lead the Rochester Honkers to a Northwoods League championship ... Appeared in 41 games, batting .254 ... Posted four doubles and 14 RBI while walking 27 times ... Stole seven bases.
Brent Warren - Appeared in 46 games for the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League, making 34 starts ... Batted .315 with three doubles and three triples ... Drove in 20 and walked 15 times ... Was 7-for-8 in stolen base attempts.
