Joey Wong, Adalberto Santos and Stefen Romero all finished with two hits as the Beavers finished their trip to Palm Springs with a 9-6 victory over Texas Tech on Sunday. Romero and Wong both drove in two runs and the Beavers used a four-run seventh to come back from a 6-5 deficit. Nick Stiltner, in just his second career appearance, picked up the win and Kevin Rhoderick threw a perfect ninth for his third save of 2009.
A New Name
The game will match the first time the Beavers have played Missouri State, yet not the first time the schools have met. Make sense? Oregon State has squared off against the program, in 1993 and 2004, compiling a 2-0 record. But in those two games, Missouri State was called Southwest Missouri State. Not a huge difference, but enough to have some fun when looking through the record books.
Wong At 7
Joey Wong already has seven multiple-hit games last season, putting him more than halfway to the 12 he posted all of last season.
Sitton Doing What He Does Best
And what he does best is strand runners. The lefty has inherited eight runners this season, stranding them all. Last year, only eight of 34 scored on him.
Notes Of Importance
The series marks the second annual Papé Grand Slam at PGE Park. Last year, the Beavers attracted nearly 30,000 fans over three days when playing Georgia. An announced crowd of 11,166 attended the Sunday game, a record for an OSU non-Omaha crowd.
Oregon State will now play its next 14 games in the state of Oregon.
Adalberto Santos comes into Friday night's game on a five-game hit streak. He is batting .389 (7-for-18) with four runs and five RBI during that stretch. He has also walked twice.
As a group, the relievers have inherited 22 runners. Just six have scored. That's only 27 percent.
Joey Wong is 6-for-11 (.545) in his last three games and has collected five RBI during that stretch.
Pat Casey needs four wins for 650 all-time.
