Feb. 25, 2012
Conforto singled in the second, third and fifth innings to go 3-for-3 on the day, setting a new career high in the process.
Rodriguez, meanwhile, singled in the second, fourth and ninth innings to help pace the Beavers, who finished with eight hits against two San Diego pitchers.
San Diego, however, finished with 16 hits and scored three in the first and three in the fourth for the early advantage. Kris Bryant led USD with a 3-for-5 effort and drove in three.
The Beavers fell behind early for the second consecutive game, giving the Toreros a three-run advantage after one. Bryant highlighted San Diego's inning with an RBI and the Toreros sent nine to the plate during the frame.
Ryan Barnes pulled the Beavers (4-3 overall) to with one, 3-2, on a two-run single in the second and that score remained steady for two more innings before San Diego (4-2) added three more in the fourth. Bryant again struck for USD, driving in two on a single to right.
San Diego plated a solo run in the fifth, two in the seventh and four in the eighth to seal the win.
Dan Child made the start for the Beavers and took the loss to drop to 0-1 this season. He allowed seven hits and five runs - four earned - in 3 1/3 innings. He was relieved by freshman left-hander Carlos Rodriguez in the fourth.
San Diego's Dylan Covey made the start for the Toreros and worked 6 1/3 innings, scattering seven hits and two runs to improve to 1-1 this season.
