
Nick Madrigal Earns Another Preseason Honor

Madrigal is a junior from Elk Grove, Calif.
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Nick Madrigal, the reigning Pac-12 Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Year, has been named a preseason All-American for the second time leading up to the 2018 season. He was selected to the First Team by Perfect Game, which released its three teams on Tuesday.

A junior infielder from Elk Grove, Calif., Madrigal was just the second player in the last two decades to earn the conference's player and defensive player of the year honor in the same season. He was also named a unanimous All-American, earning recognition from all six teams.

He will take a .359 career batting average into 2018 after finishing with a .380 mark last season. In 109 career games, he has 31 doubles, seven triples, five home runs, 69 runs batted in and 19 stolen bases in 24 attempts. He has also accumulated a .977 fielding percentage. A sociology major who was a Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention selection at the end of his sophomore season, Madrigal was also the first Oregon State player to earn an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove, doing so at the end of 2017.
