Beavers Drop Contest at Iowa State

AMES, Iowa – Oregon State wrestling dropped a non-conference contest at Iowa State inside Hilton Coliseum on Sunday afternoon, 24-16. The Beavers fall to 3-2 on the dual season.
Starting the dual at 197-pounds, redshirt junior Corey Griego started quick and never looked back. A double-let takedown in the first ten seconds of the match put Griego up for good on the way to a 7-1 decision over Sam Colbray.
Redshirt senior Amar Dhesi, making just his second dual start in the last two seasons, gave up an early two to Marcus Harrington, but rebounded quickly in route to a 13-4 major decision. Dhesi handed Harrington his first dual loss of the season, while picking up his 70th career victory.
125-pounder Ronnie Bresser picked up a win via forfeit, putting the Beavers up 13-0 after the first three Matches. Bresser improves to 13-3 on the season.
Oregon State dropped the next two matches before the break at 133 and 141. Redshirt freshman Devan Turner dropped a 5-0 decision, while redshirt senior Jack Hathaway lost a 9-1 major decision to the 11th ranked Kanen Storr.
Oregon State led 13-7 at the break.
Resuming at 149-pounds, redshirt sophomore Josh Reyes made his first dual start for the Beavers, but fell to technical fall to Jarrett Degen. Oregon State now led 13-12.
For the second consecutive dual, freshman Hunter Willits dropped a sudden victory decision. He held a 3-2 lead late in the third period, but a second stall call awarded Iowa State's Chase Straw the sudden victory forcing point. For the first time of the dual Oregon State trailed Iowa State, 15-13.
Redshirt sophomore 165-pounder Billy Bigelow used a final minute takedown to defeat Skyler St. John of Iowa State. The Las Vegas native finished a single-leg takedown with under 30-seconds to wrestle and held on to win 3-2 putting the Beavers back on top of the Cyclones, 16-15.
174-pounds proved to be a pivotal point in the dual. Freshman Myles Terry was in a tight match in to the third, but Danny Bush won by fall putting the Cyclones back on top 21-16.
In the final bout of the dual, redshirt sophomore Seth McLeod lost a 4-3 decision putting the final score in Iowa State's favor, 24-16.

Oregon State begins Pacific-12 Conference action on the road against Arizona State on Saturday, Jan. 20. The Sun Devils were the 2017 Pac-12 Wrestling Champions.
This year's Pac-12 Championships are hosted by the Beavers on Feb. 25 in Gill Coliseum. The NCAA Championships are March 15-17 in Cleveland, Ohio.
