What Rhode Has Meant to the Program

A look at the success of Oregon State's winningest head coach
With his 82nd win at the helm of the Oregon State Soccer program 1-0 over the University of San Francisco, Oregon State's Linus Rhode became the winningest head coach in Oregon State history.
Â
The veteran coach has led his team to three NCAA tournament appearances and one Sweet 16 appearance in his tenure, but before he was the head coach of the club he spent eight years as an assistant and associate head coach for the Beavers.
Â
"Linus has been here for a long time as an assistant coach before taking over the helm, but it is rare to make the jump he did into being a Pac-12 head coach that just shows the pedigree of coach he is," said associate head coach Michelle Voiland. "We have always had a solid team that played good soccer. Seeing where this senior group was as freshmen and where they are now shows the tenacity that he has and the vision he has for the program. He really cares about the student athletes and everyone that is involved in the program."
Â
And a big part of the success has been due to the atmosphere Rhode inspires on the team on and off the field.
Â
"Linus has done so much for the program," said redshirt senior Emmy Rodriguez. "He does such a great job at creating that family atmosphere on and off the field."
Â
"I've had a lot of coaches, and coach Rhode is one of the best I've ever had," said redshirt senior Kathryn Baker. "You can go to him for anything and I don't think anyone else deserves to be the winningest coach."
Â
And becoming the winningest coach in school history could be a lot to take in, but coach Rhode is focused on the big picture this year with his team starting out with an 2-1-2 record early in the season.
Â
"It's been a great experience so far, so many years of great memories," Rhode said. "But I don't really think about (the record), my main focus is this team and doing what we can to keep improving and getting results."
Â
The Beavers return home on Friday for a matchup with Portland State.
