Beavers Fall to No. 6 Huskies

The Beavers (1-4, 0-2) fell to the Huskies (5-0, 2-0) 42-7.

Oregon State's defense shined in the first half, holding the Washington offense to its lowest halftime point total this season. The Huskies scored on their opening possession of the game taking a 7-0 lead.

After allowing 98 yards on the only scoring drive of the first half, the stingy Beavers' defense gave up only 96 yards in the remainder of the first half.

Sophomore Andrzej Hughes-Murray got the sack party started early in the first quarter. Senior Manase Hungalu had 1.5 sacks in the first half, while junior Bright Ugwoegbu led the team with six total tackles to accompany 0.5 sacks.

Oregon State won the opening coin toss and deferred to Washington who chose to receive the ball starting the second half. The Huskies opened the second half with a touchdown drive, pushing their lead to 14-0.

Trailing 21-0 late in the third quarter with Washington driving down the field, the Oregon State defense made another big play. Freshman David Morris intercepted a pass after the ball went was tipped off the receivers hands. It was Morris' first career interception.

The Beavers got on the board in the fourth quarter following a 10 play 74-yard drive that was capped off by a 12-yard rushing touchdown from senior Thomas Tyner, a first of his Oregon State career. Tyner had an OSU career-long 18 yard rush attempt on the drive.

Washington went on to win the game by a final score of 42-7.

Junior Ryan Nall led Oregon State with five receptions for 44 yards, including a 19-yard catch and run. Tyner finished the game with a team-high 54 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Defensively, Hungalu led the Beavers with 11 total tackles including seven solo tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Oregon State returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 7 for a road conference game against USC. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
