Team Orange On Top after Intrasquad Meet

Team Orange wins final relay to claim top spot
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Coming down to the last event of the meet, Team Orange used the 400 free relay team of Arianna Letrari, Megan Lam, Noemie Midrez and Allie Kilroy to take home the top team score at the Osborn Aquatic Center on Friday.
"I thought the meet went really well," said head coach Jennifer Buffin. "With this being our first time racing the full format and seeing the student-athletes in their primary events, and getting an opportunity to see the freshmen, I thought we were in a good place going into next week's meet against USC and [CSU] Bakersfield."
Team Black started off the meet with wins in both the 400 medley relay and 1,000 free, with the relay team of Felicia Anderson, Fernanda Rodriguez, Merritt Allen and Callan Jackman taking the first win, while Amina Bachir took the top spot in the distance race.
"Amina [Bachir] was a highlight in the 1,000," added Buffin. "I thought it was a good swim for her at the start of the season.
"Of course, being able to see some of our veterans, to see where they are at this point in the season, was also good. I think that Felicia [Anderson] is in a good place in the backstrokes and leading off our relays."
Jackman and Rodriguez kept Team Black ahead with wins in the 50 free and 200 IM, respectively, while newcomer Arianna Letrari got a win for Team Orange in the 200 fly and Riley Neal earned the top spot in the 100 free.
"Seeing where Arianna [Letrari] was in her first true short-course meet and seeing her in the 200 fly is good for us, so I thought she was a highlight as well," said Buffin of the Bolzano, Italy, native.
Team Black got its last wins in the 200 back from Anderson and in the 500 free from Bachir, while Team Orange stayed close behind with a win from Kilroy in the 200 breast.
"I thought Allie Kilroy is doing a great job," said Buffin, "she's in a great place at this point in the season."
Team Orange took the overall win after its 400 free relay team took the top spot on the podium.
"I'm excited," added Buffin. "A lot of good energy tonight and it was great to see the fans out again supporting us again.
"We're looking forward to going down to Los Angeles next week to compete."
The Beavers will head south to Los Angeles next week on Friday, October 6, to take on USC and CSU Bakersfield. Meet time is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT.
