BEAVERS WIN SEASON OPENER IN CORVALLIS
September 22, 2017 | Women's Swimming
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State swimming team opened its 2017-18 season today in Corvallis with a tri-meet against Willamette University and Southwest Oregon Community College.
Â
"I think it was a good way for us to run through a swim meet, obviously it's not a traditional format for college swimming," began Oregon State head coach Jennifer Buffin. "But I think it gave us and everyone a good idea of how everyone is swimming through a meet."
Â
The Beavers were a perfect 5-for-5 in the women's events taking home first place in each.
Â
The meet started with the 50-yard butterfly and Felicia Anderson took home the crown with a time of 25.08. Allie Kilroy finished in second place with a time of 25.21.
Â
Anderson continued her success in the next event, the 50-yard backstroke, winning with a time of 26.90. A time of 28.29 was enough to secure Megan Lam the silver.
Â
In the 50-yard breaststroke Allie Kilroy used a 30.73 second time to secure the win. Fernanda Rodriquez finished in second with a time of 32.12, while Riley Neil was close behind in third at 33.27.
Â
Anderson once again found herself at the top in the 50-yard butterfly, winning with a time of 26.42, out-touching Arianna Letrari by .18 of a second.
Â
The final event of the evening, the 100-yard IM, it was the same song and dance as Anderson won with a time of 1:01.04. Kilroy followed close behind in second at 1:01.72.
Â
"For us, this was an opportunity to evaluate where we are at in the season," said Buffin. "Being able to take that evaluation and learn from it and figure out how we can get better week by week is our goal."
Â
The Oregon State swimming remains in Corvallis for the Orange & Black Meet on Friday, Sept. 29 at 5:30 p.m.
