OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (OSU/Senior CLASS) – Oregon State University men's soccer senior Timmy Mueller (Post Falls, Idaho) was one of 60 candidates (30 men and 30 women) selected for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award® announced in a release from the organization on Friday.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Each of the 60 candidates has displayed a strong work ethic in the classroom and on the pitch with 30 having grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher and 12 being returning All-Americans. Outside of academics and athletics, all candidates also have been consistently involved in community service on their campus or in their communities.
Each of the two candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2017 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup in December.
Mueller, a three-year letter winner for Oregon State, has represented the best of Corvallis both on and off the pitch. The Post Falls H.S. product has produced a cumulative 3.85 GPA at OSU and is a two-time member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District and Pac-12 All-Academic first teams in 2015 and 2016.
Mueller was also the men's soccer SAAC representative his junior year on campus and is on the current OSU men's soccer Senior Leadership group. Outside the classroom and off the field, Mueller has been involved with team community service events such as CARDV and Habitat for Humanity, while also staying involved with his church group through the St. Mary's and Neumann Center.
On the pitch, Mueller has garnered countless accolades, most notably the 2014 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honor, and places on the 2014 College Soccer News Freshman All-America team and Top Drawer Soccer's 2014 Freshman Best XI. Mueller also earned a spot on the All-Pac-12 second team as a freshman and junior, a spot on the All-Pac-12 first team as a sophomore, was named to three All-Pac-12 Preseason teams, and placed on the All-Far West Region third team as a freshman and second team as a sophomore.
