Beavers To Face Michigan In Match Play

MADISON, Wis. – The Oregon State women's golf team will face Michigan in the consolation bracket of the East West Match Play Challenge on Monday.
The Beavers shot a 17-over 298-295--593 during Sunday's stroke play competition at the par-72, 6,297-yard University Ridge Golf Course.
There are eight teams in the field and the top four advanced to the championship bracket, while the other four teams are playing in the consolation bracket. The Beavers will open match play against the Michigan Wolverines.
The match play format is five golfers competing head-to-head in individual play with one point given to the winning player. The first team to three points wins the match. Extra holes will be played as necessary.
Monday's match play begins at 9 a.m. CT (7 a.m. PT) on Monday off the first and 10th tees. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
"We're excited to play Michigan in match play," Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley said. "It will be a great opportunity against a great team."
Junior Olivia Benzin led the Beavers on Sunday, shooting a 2-over 75-71--146. Senior Susie Cavanagh, junior Haley Nist and freshman Ellie Slama are three strokes back of Benzin after finishing with a 5-over 149.
Cavanagh went 77-72, Nist was the opposite at 72-77 and Slama posted scores of 74-75 in her first collegiate tournament. Sophomore Nicole Schroeder finished with an 80-79--159.
Sophomore Mari Nishiura, a transfer from Nevada, led the eight golfers competing as an individual with a 3-over 73-74—147.
