Mount Leads Beavers at Sundodger Invitational

SEATTLE, Wash. – Oregon State cross country took second place overall, while junior Juliana Mount placed fourth individually on Saturday at the Sundodger Invitational at Lincoln Park.

"Great start to the season for the troops," began head coach Louie Quintana. "It was a great effort from the entire group, and we will continue to improve, but I felt we ran a very poised race."

Mount finished the 6,000-meter course layout in 20:44.82, just over 15 seconds behind first place. She came into this season as the Beaver's number two finisher at both the Pac-12 meet and the NCAA West Regional Meet in 2016.

 Senior Holly Cavalluzzo placed 10th in the 78-woman field with a time of 21:12.38 in her first race back since being sidelined all of last year due to injury.

"JJ (Juliana Mount) was terrific finishing in fourth for us, and Holly hung in there for 10th place which was important for us."
Â
Freshman Audrey Lookner had a spectacular first career race in her Oregon State career. Lookner was the third place finisher for the Beavers finishing the course in 21:44.47, and placing 21st overall.

OSU's other scorers were junior Nicole Goecke (25th, 21:53.66) and sophomore Lexi Reed (26th, 21:54.15)

Graduate Colette Richter (29th, 22:04.90), freshman Rebecca Ledsham (37th, 22:28.87), senior Kala Kopecek (38th, 22:29.46), sophomore Emily Bacon (52nd, 23:03.74), and juniors Gwyneth McMorris (53rd, 23:04.40) and Kaely Gordon (63rd, 23:43.99) rounded out Oregon State's runners.

Sam McKinnon made the trip, but did not compete.

The Beavers defeated Nevada, Creighton, Eastern Washington, Seattle University, Santa Clara, Portland State and Hawaii. Nevada is ranked 14th in the USTFCCCA Mountain Region Poll.

"We have a lot of work to do," said Quintana. "But we are eager to get back to Corvallis and put our heads down and grind it out."
