Nall Goes Over 100 yards, but Beavers Fall to Rams
August 26, 2017 | Football
Junior running back moves into 16th on Oregon State's career rushing list
Nall's afternoon included a 75-yard second-quarter touchdown run, and with his performance, the junior moves into 16th on the Oregon State career rushing list with 1,521 yards.
Quarterback Jake Luton threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns in his Oregon State debut. Tight end Noah Togai recorded a career-high seven receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown, while receiver Jordan Villamin tallied seven receptions for 77 yards. Overall, the Beavers accounted for 456 yards of total offense.
The contest marked the first ever game at Colorado State Stadium, and was played in front of a crowd of 37,583.
Luton wasted little time getting the Beavers on the board, taking Oregon State down the field on its second possession of the game. The Marysville, Wash. native capped an eight-play 80-yard drive with a 39-yard touchdown strike to Timmy Hernandez.
The Rams responded by taking a 14-10 lead early in the second quarter, but Nall's 75-yard scamper put the Beavers back in front. Colorado State answered by going up by seven late in the half, before Luton orchestrated a 73-yard drive in the closing 1:13 of the second period, resulting in a field goal that sent Oregon State to the break trailing 24-20.
The Rams took a 17-point lead in the third quarter, but the Beavers came back with a 25-yard touchdown to Togai to cut the advantage to 10. Oregon State would not get any closer from there, as Colorado State took the victory.
Safety Jalen Moore led the Beavers with nine tackles. Brandon Arnold, Xavier Crawford and Andrzej Hughes-Murray finished with seven tackles apiece.
Oregon State will return to action next Saturday when the Beavers host Portland State in their 2017 home opener. That contest will begin at 11 a.m., and will air live on Pac-12 Networks.
