Orange & Black Exhibition Set for Friday
August 15, 2017 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Beaver fans' first chance to check out the 2017 Oregon State volleyball team on the court is set for Friday evening at Gill Coliseum when the squad scrimmages in the annual Orange & Black Exhibition.
Â
The event is free to the public and starts at 7 p.m. Following the exhibition, the team will sign autographs in the Gill Coliseum lobby.
Â
The Orange & Black Exhibition marks the only public scrimmage for the Beavers as they prepare to kick off the 2017 season when they host the Ultra Ankle Challenge on the season's opening weekend, Aug. 25-26. Oregon State opens the tournament against Idaho at 10 a.m. on the 25th with their second match coming later that day with a 7 p.m. match against the Pacific Tigers. The tourney concludes with the Beavers facing Kansas State at 7 p.m. on Aug. 26.
Â
In 2017, Oregon State seeks to improve upon last year's 12-19 record. Second-year head coach Mark Barnard has lined up the nation's 19th-ranked recruiting class to bolster a roster that includes 10 returning letterwinners including Mary-Kate Marshall, who was an All-American in 2016.
Â
Marshall is joined by five other returning starters including fellow senior Lanesha Reagan at outside hitter, McKenna Hollingsworth at setter, Kayla Ellis at libero, and middle blockers Kory Cheshire and Serena Bruin. In addition, Daniela Vargas and Maddy Gravley, both middles, return to the fold with starting experience as well as defensive specialist Makenna Browne and setter Delaney Taylor.
Â
Joining the returners are freshmen Maddie Goings, Grace Massey, Kylee McLaughlin and Lindsey Schell as well as junior transfer Shekinah Clarke. Also entering the picture for the first time will be redshirt freshman Haylie Bennett.
