Beavs In Spain: A Long Travel Day To Start Things Off
August 15, 2017 | Men's Basketball
Click on this link to watch a video recap of the travel day to Spain.
Â
BARCELONA, Spain – Unless you like reading about people sitting on a bus, waiting in an airport or sleeping on a plane, the first blog about the Oregon State men's basketball trip to Spain won't excite you much.
Â
The most important note -- everyone made it safely.
Â
The coaches, student-athletes and support staff boarded a bus at Gill Coliseum at 9 a.m. PT on Monday for the short jaunt to PDX. After checking bags and getting through security, each person went their own way to find something to eat. The Delta flight departed right on time at 1:22 p.m. and the travel party either watched movies or slept during the nine hour, 25 minute flight to Amsterdam.
Â
After arriving in Amsterdam at 8:30 a.m. Central European Summer Time (CEST), the group moved quickly through the airport to make the 10:15 a.m. connection to Barcelona. That flight was a little more than two hours and there wasn't an open eye in the group as everyone quickly fell asleep.
Â
The travel party had a short walking tour of downtown Barcelona before eating a team meal at 6:30 p.m. at the hotel, which capped a long travel day to start things off.
Â
On the docket for Wednesday are tours of the Olympic Stadium, FC Barcelona Stadium and Port Olimpica Nautica.
Â
The Beavers play their first of five games on Thursday. Here's the schedule (there is a nine-hour time difference from Corvallis to Spain):
