Eight OSU Rowers Earn IRA All-Academic Honors

BOSTON, Mass. – Eight Oregon State rowers were among those announced to the 2017 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) All-Academic Team by the IRA Board of Stewards.
Named to the to the academic squad were Baxter Call, Ercoli Crugnale, Neall Koetje, Liam Kucey, Glenn Miller, Hunter Smith, Nathan Smith and Brad Vomocil.
To be eligible for recognition, a student-athlete must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.35 or higher, completed one full year at their institution (freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible), be an institutional letter winner and competed at the 2016 IRA National Championship Regatta.
This year's awards mark the second straight IRA All-Academic honors for Call, Koetje, Kucey and Nathan Smith.
Call, a junior majoring in environment engineering, Koetje, a junior studying exercise and sport science, Miller, a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering, and Nathan Smith, a senior studying civil engineering, finished the 2017 season racing in the Varsity 8 at IRA Championships helping the Beavers' top boat to a 20th place finish.
Kucey, a senior majoring in civil engineering, and Hunter Smith, a sophomore, raced with OSU's Second Varsity 8 crew helping to earn a 21st place finish at IRAs.
Crugnale, a sophomore coxswain studying philosophy, and Vomocil, a sophomore majoring in mathematics, were part of the Beavers' Third Varsity 8, earning a 14th place finish at the national championship regatta.
All eight rowers were also Pac-12 All-Academic selections.
In all, 336 student-athletes from 32 member institutions were recognized.
