Transfer guard won a U19 Gold Medal in 2015
Corvallis – Oregon State guard Destiny Slocum has accepted an invitation to attend the 2017 USA Basketball Women's U23 National Team Training Camp, the organization announced Tuesday.
Â
The camp, which features 40 of the nation's top collegiate players, will take place from July 31-Aug. 4 at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. A 12-player squad, which will be selected on Aug. 4, will take part in the 2017 U23 Four Nations Tournament in Tokyo, Japan. Louisville head coach Jeff Walz has been tabbed to lead the team.
Â
Slocum, who helped the USA Basketball U19 Team win gold at the 2015 World Championships, joined the Beavers as a transfer in May after earning WBCA National Freshman of the Year honors last season at Maryland. A native of Meridian, Idaho, she was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and made the All-Conference Second Team in her freshman campaign with Maryland. She averaged 11.5 points, 6.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds during her time with the Terrapins.

She tallied 21 points, eight assists, four rebounds and three steals in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, including a halftime buzzer-beater from 70-feet. Slocum made the Big Ten All-Tournament Team after averaging 15.0 points and 6.0 assists in the event. She scored in double-figures 17 times on the season and went over five assists on 24 occasions.
The guard was the No. 7 ranked prospect in the nation when she graduated from Mountain View High School in 2016. Slocum was a McDonald's All-American and a two-time Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year. She averaged 24.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 6.1 assists during her senior campaign at Mountain View.
