The left-hander went 7-1 with a 1.20 ERA in 2017
DURHAM, N.C. – Oregon State left-handed pitcher Jake Mulholland has been named a Freshman All-American for the third time this season. Baseball America announced him to its second team on Monday.
Â
The Snohomish, Wash., native has already been recognized by Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). The NCBWA also honored him as a second-Team All-American (overall).
Â
That made him just the third Oregon State freshman to be named an All-American, joining Michael Conforto (2012) and Bryce Fehmel (2016).
Â
Mulholland ended the season with a 7-1 record and 1.20 earned run average in 28 relief appearances. His ERA ranks as the fourth-lowest mark in Oregon State single-season history among pitchers with 40 or more innings.
Â
He struck out 44 in 52 1/3 innings, holding opponents to a .183 batting average.
Â
Mulholland capped his freshman campaign with 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief against Cal State Fullerton in the opening game of the College World Series. He struck out three and earned the win after the Beavers came-from-behind for a 6-5 victory.
