CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State Athletics is proud to announce Olivia Ashby, Samantha Lewis, Brad Vomocil and Andrea Young have been named May Student-Athletes of the Month.
Ashby, a junior majoring in business marketing, rowed in the Beavers' Varsity 8 most of the 2017 season helping to power OSU to a sixth place finish at Pac-12 Championships last month. The Beavers' finish at the conference meet was their best since 2009. A native of Rotorua, New Zealand, she sports a 3.66 cumulative grade point average and was recently named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team for the second straight season.
Lewis, a senior with a 3.96 cumulative GPA in exercise and sport science, is a standout distance runner for the Beavers. The 13-time OSU Honor Roll member was selected Pac-12 All-Academic First Team for track and field earlier this month and has twice earned the honor in cross country. The Boulder, Colo., native was recently featured on Pac Profiles and is a part of the Beaver Athletics Sustainability Team that will receive a national award later this month.
Vomocil, a Corvallis native, joined the Oregon State rowing program as a novice last year and raced in the Beavers' Third Varsity 8 in 2017. The OSU 3V8 raced to a 14th place finish at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships earlier this month, the best finish by an OSU crew this year. A mathematics major who spent six years in the US Navy prior to pursuing a degree at Oregon State, the sophomore rower holds a 4.00 GPA and will graduate from OSU this weekend in just three years. He'll return to the fleet as an office upon graduation.
