Pat Casey Named NCBWA Coach Of The Year

OMAHA, Neb. – Oregon State head coach Pat Casey has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Coach of the Year.

The announcement comes just hours before the Beavers are slated to open the College World Series against Cal State Fullerton Saturday at TD Ameritrade Park.

Casey has now been named the national coach of the year by at least one publication in four different years, earning the honor in 2005, 2006 and 2007 prior to Saturday's honor.

The 23^rd-year head coach – 30 overall including seven seasons at George Fox – has guided the Beavers to a school-record 54 victories this season. Twenty-seven of those 54 wins came during Pac-12 play, which set a conference record for the most wins in league action. OSU finished the season six games ahead of second-place Stanford, the largest winning margin in more than 30 years.

The Beavers carry a .931 winning percentage into Saturday's action, which is the best mark by a team entering the College World Series since Texas was 57-4 (.934) in 1982.

Oregon State is also on a 21-game win streak, which is the second-longest of the year nationally. The longest belongs to Oregon State as well as the Beavers won 23 consecutive games from late February through mid-April.

The honor is the second postseason award bestowed on Casey this year. He was also named the Pac-12's Coach of the Year right before the start of NCAA Regional play.
