
Engelbrekt Named Pac-12 Baseball Scholar-Athlete Of The Year

The honor is the first for an OSU player since it was introduced in 2008
SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State redshirt senior left-handed pitcher Max Engelbrekt has been named the Pac-12's 2017 Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced on Monday.
Engelbrekt is the first Oregon State player to earn the honor since the award's inception in 2008. A native of Seattle, Engelbrekt is pursuing his Master of Business Administration and carries a 3.63 grade point average through the Winter term. He earned his bachelor's degree in finance with a GPA of 3.41 last summer, and was recently named a 2017 Pac-12 All-Academic First-Team selection after earning Second-Team status in 2016. The lefty was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 First-Team honoree in May.
Engelbrekt has played in 80 career games for Oregon State, including 16 this season. All-time he is 11-5 with 1.97 earned run average, with a 3-0 mark this year. He's tied for third all-time at OSU with 22 career saves.
From the Pac-12: In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility), on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution. Each Pac-12 institution may nominate one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-12 staff members at the conclusion of each sport's regular season. The athletic accomplishments of the nominees are a consideration in the voting for the award.
