Beavers don't advance at NCAA Regional meet

AUSTIN, Tex. – Javelin specialists McKenzie Byrd and Kindel Bailey finished their seasons on Thursday at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships at the University of Texas.
A junior, Byrd took 13th in her heat and 44th overall with a mark of 131-8, well off her season-best of 150-9.25, the No. 2 mark in school history. A sophomore, Bailey had two fouls and passed on her final attempt. The school record-holder at 151-0, she has been fighting an elbow injury.
Redshirt sophomore Venessa D'Arpino ran 54.21 in the 400 meters and took sixth in her heat and 26th overall. She was the 48th-ranked qualifier entering the race and improved 22 spots from her seeding. Only the top 24 finishers advanced to the quarterfinals. She runs in the 200 meters (23.63) on Friday. She is the school record-holder in both events.
Senior Kara Hallock placed ninth in her flight and 27th overall in the long jump at 19-8.25. She was seeded 47th, and bettered that by 20 places with her fourth jump of 19-4 or better this season. Only the top 12 placers advanced.
She has already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon by scoring 5,551 points and placing second at the Pacific-12 Conference Championships. The NCAAs are June 7-10 at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Sophomore Juliana Mount runs in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday. She is seeded 33rd with a school-record time of 10:22.97, set on April 28 in her first-ever race in that event.
Senior Morgan Anderson runs in the 5,000 meters on Saturday. She is seeded 42nd in 16:17.50, the No. 2 all-time mark.
