Sumner Houston Draws Rimington Trophy Interest
May 22, 2017 | Football
Oregon State football offensive lineman Sumner Houston has been selected one of five players from the Pac-12 Conference to the initial Rimington Trophy watch list, presented annually to the nation's top center.
The 6-2, 289-pound Houston, who converted from defensive tackle in the offseason, will anchor the Beaver offensive line that enabled OSU to set a single season school record for rushing yards per carry average last season at 5.2.
Houston, a native of Dublin, Calif., has started 11 games throughout his career on defense making 26 tackles. The construction engineering management major has twice been honored by the Pac-12 Conference for his academic success.
Houston is the eighth Beaver to be selected to the initial Rimington Trophy watch list since the award's inception in 2001. He joins Chris Gibson (2001), Matt Brock (2004), Kyle DeVan (2006 & '07), Alex Linnenkohl (2010), Grant Johnson (2011), Isaac Seumalo (2013), and Josh Mitchell (2015).
Oregon State returns to the practice field in July in preparation for the 2017 football season. Season tickets are available at BeaverTickets.com for the six-game home schedule.
