SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Oregon State women's golfer Susie Cavanagh played a spectacular back nine in the first round of the NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championships on Friday.

Cavanagh, a native of Warwick, R.I., shot a 7-over 43 on the front side but bounced back with an even-par 36 coming in to finish the day with a 7-over 79 at the par-72, 6,343-yard Rich Harvest Farms. She birdied the par-4, 367-yard 17th hole and added seven pars on the back nine.

The junior will tee off at 12:55 p.m. CT (10:55 a.m. PT) on Saturday and be paired with Cara Gorlei of Arkansas and Maya Walton of Princeton. The tee times for Sunday's round will be determined by individual standings after the first two rounds.

The NCAA National Championships consists of all 24 teams and 12 individuals completing 54 holes of stroke play. The top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will advance for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match play competition and the 72-hole stroke play individual champion. The top eight teams then compete in match play for the championship.

Cavanagh is just the third Oregon State women's golfer to advance to Nationals as an individual, joining All-American Kathleen Takaishi in 1999 and Anica Yoo in 2015. Takaishi finished in a tie for 48th place at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., while Yoo finished in a tie for 45th at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla.
