Talented Safety Officially Joins Program

Austin Hudson, a 6-2, 215-pound safety from Tampa, Fla., has officially joined the Oregon State football team, Beaver head coach Gary Andersen announced Wednesday.
Hudson arrives at OSU from the University of South Florida, where he played 11 games last season making eight tackles. He began his collegiate career in 2014 at the University of Wisconsin under then-Badger head coach Gary Andersen. During his lone season in Madison, Hudson was a special teams standout playing in every game making 19 tackles (13 in Big Ten action).
"Austin in an exceptional young man with great character," Andersen said. "He's an excellent fit for our program and we anticipate him being an immediate contributor to this team."
Hudson, who sat out the 2015 season due to NCAA transfer regulations, will be immediately eligible to compete for OSU. He already possesses a bachelor's degree in psychology from USF, where he was an American Athletic Conference Academic Team member, and thus is considered an NCAA "graduate transfer." He has two years of playing eligibility to be completed over the next two seasons while studying for his master of counseling in Corvallis.
Hudson is a graduate of Plant High School in Tampa where he helped the team win back-to-back district championships in Florida 8A. He made 90 tackles for his career and as a receiver caught 20 passes for 447 yards and six touchdowns. He graduated with a 4.6 cumulative GPA (advanced courses) from Plant.
Oregon State returns to the practice field in July in preparation for the 2017 football season. Season tickets are available at BeaverTickets.com for the six-game home schedule.
