Beavers Qualify to IRA National Championships
May 16, 2017 | Men's Rowing
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men's rowing team has accepted an invitation to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships for the fifth straight seasons. Four crews - the Varsity 8, Junior Varsity 8, Third Varsity 8 and Varsity 4+ - will represent the Beavers at the national championship regatta.
"Racing at IRA's is another great opportunity to race with the best teams in the country," head coach Gabe Winkler said. "I'm excited to have three weeks to prepare for our fastest race of the year and after Pac-12's last weekend we know exactly what we need to improve upon. This Varsity 8 crew has been coming together in recent weeks and it's exciting to know they'll be even better with three weeks of prep."
The Beavers, who finished third overall at the Pac-12 Rowing Championships on Sunday, concluded the regular season ranked No. 19.
Oregon State has nearly three weeks to prepare for IRAs, including several crews the Beavers have already faced this season including California, Santa Clara, Stanford, Washington and Wisconsin.
The IRA National Championships are scheduled for June 2-4 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif.
