Field, Haun set pole vault record at Pac-12s
May 14, 2017 | Women's Track & Field
EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Helen Ann Haun and sophomore Gillette Field each set the school record in the pole vault on Sunday to lead the Oregon State track & field on Day 2 of the Pacific-12 Conference championships at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Field was the first to establish the new standard, as she cleared 12-10.25 on her first try. The former record-holder at 12-10, Haun equaled that mark on her final attempt at that height.
Both women then missed three times at 13-2.25. Gillette placed sixth on fewer misses and scored three points; Haun took ninth.
"Those attempts were barely missed," OSU coach Kelly Sullivan said, adding that Field has now scored in both of her conference meets, as she placed fifth in 2016.
The Beavers scored 21.50 points and took 11th place, ahead of Utah. It is the second-most points scored at the Pac-12 meet since the program was reinstated for the 2005 season after being suspended for budgetary reasons in June, 1988.
"We had a lot of close efforts, a lot more ninth- and 10th-place finishes," Sullivan added. "Losing Devin Collins and Kindel Bailey to injuries this week hurt," as both are school record-holders and potential scorers in the hurdles and javelin, respectively.
"So we did not score as much as we did last year (23.50) but it was by far the most top-10 finishes we've had, in more events. That bodes well for the future.
"Plus, we redshirted Destiny Dawson, who had a school-record throw in the javelin while competing unattached, and Kerissa D'Arpino, a standout sprinter-hurdler-relay runner," two more potential conference-meet scorers.
Freshman Lindsay McShane and senior Ally Jackson were the other Beavers to score on Sunday. McShane was a surprising seventh in the discus with a PR of 157-5, the No. 3 all-time mark; Jackson cleared 5-5.75 and tied for eighth.
"Big throw by Lindsay and a great effort by Ally," Sullivan said.
Redshirt sophomore Saskia McNairy was the other competitor to record a new all-time top-10 mark. Competing in the triple jump for the first time since 2015, she took 10th in 37-10.50, a PR by nearly two feet and the No. 4 all-time mark.
Senior Morgan Anderson placed 10th in the 1,500 meters in 4:27.86, less than a second behind eighth place. Her previous best finish in that event at a Pac-12 meet was 13th, in 2014.

The Beavers set the current school record in six events (100, 200, 400, 3,000 steeplechase, pole vault, javelin) this spring. Sunday's four all-time top-10 times or marks on Sunday gave them 71 on the season.
Â
Next up is the NCAA West Regional, set for May 25-27 at the University of Texas. The final field for that meet will be determined this week.
