Beavers off to Eugene for Pac-12 Championships

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State track & field team will compete at the Pacific-12 Conference championships this Saturday and Sunday at Hayward Field in Eugene.
The Beavers are tied for second place with Washington State with 10 points entering the competition, two points behind UCLA. Senior Kara Hallock took second and redshirt sophomore Saskia McNairy took seventh at the Pac-12 Heptathlon finals on May 6-7.
"We believe the outstanding performance in the heptathlon gives us momentum heading into the Pac-12 meet, which is one of the best meets in the world every year," OSU coach Kelly Sullivan said.
"We have prepared all season to be at our very best this weekend. We should be rested and ready to compete at a high level and to continue to improve as our program matures."
The top eight places score points. The Beavers have five athletes in the top 8 in their respective events on the Pac-12 season performance list:

- Redshirt sophomore Venessa D'Arpino is seeded eighth in the 200 meters (22.63) and 12th in the 400 meters (54.14). She is the school record-holder in both events.
 - Senior Morgan Anderson is seeded 11th in the 1,500 meters (4:23.65) and 17th in the 5,000 meters (16:17.50). She ranks No. 2 all-time in both events, behind All-American Laura Carlyle.
 - Senior Devin Collins is ranked 11th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.73). She advanced to the finals at the 2016 meet, but did not race. She placed fifth in the 100 hurdles at the 2016 championships, but is not entered in that event this year.
 - Sophomore Juliana Mount is seeded seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She set the school record (10.22.97) at the High Performance Meet on April 28 in her first time running the event.
 - Senior Helen Ann Haun (12-10) is seeded 10th and sophomore Gillette Field (12-9.50) is seeded 13th in the pole vault. Haun placed fourth, Field fifth in 2016.
 - Hallock is seeded eighth in the long jump (19-9.50) and 11th in the 100 hurdles (13.90). She redshirted in 2016.
 - Senior Madelayne Varela (37-7.75) is seeded 12th in the triple jump.
 - Senior Rachel Picknell is seeded sixth in the discus (164-9). She took ninth and just missed scoring at the 2016 meet.
 - Sophomore Kindel Bailey (151-0) is seeded seventh and junior McKenzie Byrd (150-9.75) is seeded eighth in the javelin. Byrd took fifth, Bailey 10th in 2016. OSU has five throwers in the 21-woman field; also entered are junior Amber Peschka (142-7), freshman Mikayla Pivec (142-4) and senior Kala Fleskes (139-9).
