
Pair Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State gymnastics team had a stellar year on the competition floor in 2017 and but their work in the classroom continues to garner accolades.
Senior gymnasts Silvia Colussi-Pelaez and Madeline Gardiner were named to the CoSIDA (Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District 8 At-Large team.
Colussi-Pelaez, who earned first team all-district honors, will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. Gardiner earned second team all-district.
To be eligible for selection to an academic all-district team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or above and not be a freshman or first-year transfer. Nominees are voted on by members of CoSIDA from each district. District 8 is comprised of the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
Double-majoring in chemical engineering as well as environmental engineering, Colussi-Pelaez holds a 3.93 GPA. She finished her Oregon State career last month by earning second team All-America honors on the balance beam at NCAA Championships. The Oakville, Ontario native is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic First Team selection and a three-time NACGC/W (National Association of College Gymnastics Coaches/Women) Scholastic All-American.
Gardiner, who studies exercise and sport science with designs on going to medical school following her graduation, is a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic First Team member and a three-time NACGC/W Scholastic All-American. Gardiner, who hails from Cambridge, Ontario, is a six-time All-American including earning first team accolades on the balance beam last month.
The Beavers' GPA entering the spring term stood at 3.63. The squad finished with a 3.64 GPA in the winter, with 18 out of 20 student-athletes at 3.0 or better.

Academic All-District selections from Oregon State during the 2016-17 year includes women's basketball's Sydney Wiese, Nathan Braaten and Timmy Mueller from men's soccer, and Jack Anderson, K.J. Harrison and Jake Thompson from baseball.
