Senior Kara Hallock posted the fifth-fastest 100-meter hurdle time in school history on Thursday and is in second place after Day 1 of the Jim Click heptathlon at the University of Arizona.
Hallock scored 3,212 points in the first four events of the seven-part competition. Teammate Saskia McNairy scored 2,754 points and is in 14th place in the 21-woman field.
Hallock ran 14.06 in the hurdles, scored 970 points and bettered her former PR by .23 seconds. She cleared 5-4.25 in the high jump for 771 points; threw 37-6 in the shot put for 623 points and ran 25.43 in the 200 meters for 848 points.
McNairy ran 15.70 in the hurdles, bettering her PR by .10 and scoring 751 points. She cleared 5-1.75 in the high jump for 701 points; threw 30-4.50 in the shot put for 481points and ran 25.73in the 200 meters for 821 points.
The heptathlon concludes today with the long jump, javelin and 800 meters. Hallock (5,087 points) and McNairy (4,270) rank third and fifth, respectively, all-time at OSU in the event.
Remaining team members will compete at Arizona State and at Western Oregon this weekend.
The Sun Angel Classic's hammer and pole vault will be held on Friday. The remaining field events, and all running events involving Beavers, take place on Saturday. OSU set the school 400-meter relay record (46.01) at the 2016 Sun Angel Classic but will not enter a team this year.
The John Knight Twilight Meet at WOU is Friday only. Sophomore Kaely Gordon will make her season debut, in the 1500 meters and the 3000-meter steeplechase.
With Hallock's top-10 effort in the hurdles, the Beavers have set one current school record and have posted 16 all-time top-10 times or marks this season.
