Last Game
Michael Gretler homered in the fourth, and he, Christian Donahue and Jack Anderson all recorded two hits but Oregon State lost a 7-5 decision to Utah Saturday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Gretler's home run came in the fourth and pulled the Beavers to within one at the time. Anderson drove home a run to make it 4-4 in the fifth, while Donahue singled home Trevor Larnach in the sixth to give OSU a 6-5 lead. Nick Madrigal extended his hit streak to five games with a 1-for-4 afternoon.
The Standings
Oregon State enters Sunday's series finale with a five-game lead over California and 5 1/2 over Stanford, which each won on Saturday. OSU holds the tiebreaker over Stanford after sweeping the Cardinal, and the Beavers and Golden Bears meet in a three-game series at Goss next weekend.
The Record
Saturday's crowd of 3,420 eclipsed the previous regular-season record of 3,417 set May 25, 2013 against Washington State. The Beavers have now had five crowds of 3,000 or more this season, and are averaging 2,923 per home date this season.
Off The 'Pen In Left
Michael Gretler's fourth-inning home run Saturday, which bounced off the roof over the bullpen in left, marked the first of his season and second of his career. It also marked the Beavers' first round-tripper since OSU hit two in an April 9 win over Utah. Oregon State had played seven games between home runs.
Pro Beavs
A pair of NYC Beavers are making waves in the Big Apple. Jacoby Ellsbury hit a grand slam for the New York Yankees Friday, and Michael Conforto hit a pair of home runs Saturday against Washington in D.C. The second home run came on a 99-mph fastball.
Singles
• An Oregon State win Sunday would give the Beavers nine consecutive Pac-12 series victories dating back to 2016 - seven this year.
• Oregon State head coach Pat Casey is seven victories away from 1,000 collegiate wins. That has come over 30 seasons, including seven at George Fox.
• OSU has totaled 6,787 in attendance over the first two games of the series.
