Madrigal went 8-for-20 with five RBI over four games
SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State sophomore infielder Nick Madrigal has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Â
Madrigal helped spur Oregon State to a 4-0 week, with a win over Saint Mary's Tuesday and then a three-game sweep of No. 11 Stanford at Sunken Diamond. He went 8-for-20 (.400), scoring three runs with a double and five runs batted in.
Â
The Elk Grove, Calif., native began the week with a two-hit effort in the Beavers' comeback win at Saint Mary's in Moraga, Calif. His two-run single in the ninth proved to be the game winner in Oregon State's 4-3 win.
Â
Madrigal continued his week with a two-hit game in the opener at Stanford, followed by a 3-for-7 afternoon, scoring two runs, in the team's 15-7 win on Saturday. He capped his week off with a single to lead off Sunday's finale, extending his hit streak to a career-long 17 games.
Â
He is 30-for-71 (.423) with 17 runs scored, 12 runs batted in, nine walks, five doubles and two home runs during the streak.
Â
The honor is the second of Madrigal's career, following his first to open the 2016 season.
Â
His selection gives the Beavers three straight Player of the Week honors, after Cadyn Grenier on March 21 and KJ Harrison March 28. OSU is the first team since Washington to earn three consecutive Player of the Week honors. Oregon State last accomplished the feat in 2013 when Michael Conforto (twice) and Tyler Smith were recognized.
