Beavers Edged 7-5 In 10
April 29, 2017 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Michael Gretler went 2-for-4 and hit his first home run of the season in front of a sold out 3,420 fans at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field, but top-ranked Oregon State lost in 10 innings to USC, 7-5, Saturday afternoon.
Â
The 3,420 in attendance broke an Oregon State regular season single-game record at Goss Stadium, previously set in 2013 against Washington State.
Â
Gretler went 2-for-4 and his fourth-inning solo home run pulled the Beavers to within one at the time, 3-2. OSU took the lead for the first time in the sixth on one of Christian Donahue's two hits, but the Trojans forced the game into extra innings with an eighth-inning run and USC picked up the win thanks to a two-run double by Cris Perez in the 10th.
Â
Jake Mulholland took the loss for the Beavers (33-4 overall, 17-3 Pac-12), dropping to 5-1. He allowed three hits and two runs in 2 1/3 innings.
Â
The win went to USC's (19-21, 6-11) Austin Manning, who held the Beavers to one hit in two scoreless innings. He improved to 2-1.
Â
The Record
Saturday's crowd of 3,420 eclipsed the previous regular-season record of 3,417 set May 25, 2013 against Washington State. The Beavers have now had five crowds of 3,000 or more this season, and are averaging 2,923 per home date this season.

Off The 'Pen In Left
Michael Gretler's fourth-inning home run, which bounced off the roof over the bullpen in left, marked the first of his season and second of his career. It also marked the Beavers' first round-tripper since OSU hit two in an April 9 win over Utah. Oregon State had played seven games between home runs.
