Beavers Selected To NCAA Golf Regionals

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State women's golf team earned an invitation to the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Regionals on Thursday. The Beavers are one of 72 teams to receive a bid and will compete in the Lubbock Regional May 8-10.

This marks Oregon State's 12th appearance in the NCAA Regionals and its first since 2012 when the Beavers finished 22nd at the West Regional in Erie, Colo. It's the second time Oregon State has made it to postseason in the past 11 years.

"We never stopped believing and continued to grind every week," Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley said. "Our focus was to get better every day. Every round we played, we focused on that round, one shot at a time.

"They not only believed in each other, but they believed in us as coaches and trusted in our process. As a coach, that's an incredible feeling.

"It's fun to see the culture change and watch the growth of this team every day. Not only do we work hard, but we have fun. We never stop laughing, never stop believing and always enjoy the process."

Four regional tournaments with 18 teams in each were announced on Thursday and the top six teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farms, in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

The Beavers are one of 18 teams in the Lubbock Regional, which will be played at The Rawls Course from Monday, May 8 through Wednesday, May 10.

Junior Haley Nist missed the spring season with an injury so Oregon State used the same lineup -- Olivia Benzin, Susie Cavanagh, Nicole Schroeder, Elyse Smidinger and Hannah Swanson -- in the last six tournaments. Nist set the Oregon State single-season scoring average record last year with a 74.43.

Oregon State advanced to the NCAA Regionals nine times in 10 years between 1994 and 2003 (missed in 2002). The Beavers tied for 10^th place in 1998 when they made their only trip to the NCAA Championships where they finished in 16^th place.
