Beavers Conclude First Round At Pac-12's

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Oregon State women's golf team battled a tough course in the opening round of the 2017 Pac-12 Championship on Monday.

The Beavers shot a 29-over 317 at the par-72, 6,492-yard Sewailo Golf Club and sit in 10th place with 36 holes to play. Oregon State is just a stroke behind California and Washington State and one stroke better than rival Oregon.

UCLA leads the 11-team field with a 2-over 290, six strokes better than Stanford and Colorado (8-over 296).

The second round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com. Oregon State will start on the 10th hole at 8:40 a.m. and be paired with Washington State and Oregon.

Sophomore Olivia Benzin had nothing worse than a bogey and freshman Nicole Schroeder dropped in three birdies to both lead Oregon State with a 6-over 78.

Senior Elyse Smidinger also made three birdies to finish with an 8-over 80 and junior Hannah Swanson carded a 9-over 81 to make up the Beavers' first-round scoring.

Junior Susie Cavanagh finished the opening round with an 11-over 83.

UCLA's Lilia Vu and Bethany Wu each fired a 1-under 71 and were the only golfers in the 55-player field to finish in red figures.
