CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University has been selected to host the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Regional Championships in 2019 and 2022 at Gill Coliseum.
"We're very excited to have the opportunity to host some of the finest athletes in the country in the Best College Town in the Pac-12,'' Scott Barnes, Oregon State Vice President/Director of Athletics, said. "Coach (Tanya) Chaplin has done a tremendous job sustaining success and it's an honor for the program and OSU overall to serve as the host of this top level meet."
Oregon State has previously hosted NCAA Regional Championships 15 times with the last time coming in 2013. In addition, OSU hosted Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) regional championships twice in 1972 and 1979. The Beavers have won regional titles six times as the host.
"Hosting NCAA Regional Championships is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Oregon State gymnastics program, our university and the city of Corvallis," said OSU head coach Tanya Chaplin. "Competing at home in the postseason is an incredible advantage especially for us to be in front of Beaver Nation in Gill Coliseum. We are so fortunate to have such a knowledgeable fan base that has a true appreciation for quality gymnastics. Every gymnast performing at a regional deserves to have that support and to compete in the kind of atmosphere we are able to provide in Gill Coliseum."
Oregon State is one of six host sites for the 2019 regional championships along with Georgia, Iowa State, LSU, Michigan and Oklahoma. That regional competition will be held Saturday, April 6, 2019, with the top two teams from each regional championship advancing to NCAA Championships two weeks later at a site to be determined.
The 2022 regional will take place on April 2 with Arkansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan and North Carolina State serving as the other hosts.
The Beavers' season recently concluded at NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo. where four athletes earned All-America honors following the team's 28th nationals appearance.
