FAIRFAX, Calif. – The Oregon State women's golf team shot 297, 16 strokes fewer than the first round, over the second 18 Monday to stand in 12th place at the prestigious Meadow Club Intercollegiate.
Â
Sophomore Olivia Benzin fired an even-par 72 in the second round, including carding three birdies, over the 6,167-yard Meadow Club Course.
Â
Senior Elyse Smidinger carded a 71 in the second round with three birdies to move up to a tie for 23rd- place. Benzin meanwhile is within one shot of the top-10 standing alone in 15th at 147. The Tacoma, Wash., native has already finished in the top 10 of four of the first six tournaments of the year.
Â
"It was a disappointing day for the Beavs overall," OSU head coach Dawn Shockley said. "Once again, we're proud of how Olivia battled the conditions and a difficult course. She is proving to be our most reliable player day in and day out."
Â
The final round will be played Tuesday with San Diego State entering the last round in the lead by one shot over BYU with a total of 582. OSU stands at 610 and has an opportunity to move into the top-10 Tuesday in the final round that begins at 8:15 a.m.
