March 30, 2017 | Wrestling
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Oregon State senior 133-pounder Joey Palmer earned second-team Pacific-12 Conference All-Academic honors for wrestling, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Wednesday.
The Covington, Wash., native, a graduate of Tahoma High School, has a 3.19 GPA in Human Development/Family Science and education. He was 29-7 this season, won the Pac-12 championship, and went 3-2 at NCAAs after advancing for the third time in his career.
Palmer was an honorable-mention All-Academic selection in 2016.
To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor. The Pac-12 All Academic regulations define a "starter or significant substitute" as having participated in 50 percent of a team's scheduled contests, except in unusual circumstances, such as injury.
