SAN FRANCISCO – Making history, once again.
Â
Bryce Fehmel has been named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week and KJ Harrison the league's Player of the Week on Tuesday. Oregon State is the first conference team to sweep league honors in back-to-back weeks since Arizona State in 1989. The Sun Devils were a member of the Pac-10 South that season.
Â
It is the second career weekly honor for Harrison, who was first recognized as a freshman in 2015, and the first of Fehmel's career.
Â
Fehmel, a pre-business major, is coming off an eight-inning start against Arizona, which entered the three-game series with the nation's top team batting average. The right-hander limited the Wildcats to three hits and three runs while striking out six. The right-hander is 3-1 with a 2.31 earned run average in five starts this season. Opponents are batting .187 against him in 35 innings.
Â
Harrison, meanwhile, finished 5-for-12 with four runs scored and three runs batted in during the sweep. On Friday, in the opening game of the weekend, Harrison, a marketing major, drove in the game winner in the ninth on a single up the middle. On Sunday, he recorded three hits in helping the Beavers to the sweep of Arizona. He is batting .337 with seven doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI this season.
Â
By sweeping the Wildcats, Oregon State became the first school to sweep both Arizona and Arizona State in the same season since Stanford in 1999. The sweep of Arizona was the Beavers' first since 2013, in Tucson, and the first in Corvallis since 1998.
