Last Game
Preston Jones scored all the way from second on a wild pitch to send the top-ranked Oregon State baseball team to its second consecutive walkoff win over No. 9 Arizona, 5-4, Saturday at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Arizona catcher Cory Voss, who had homered to tie the game at four in the top half of the ninth, was unable to block the ball. He couldn't find it at the backstop, enabling Jones to come home with the winning run.Â
Going For A Sweep Sunday
Oregon State is going for a sweep of Arizona Sunday, which would be the Beavers first over the Wildcats since 1998 when Goss Stadium at Coleman Field was simply Coleman Field. Oregon State last swept Arizona in 2013 in three games in Tucson.
Sixth Inning Comes Up Key Again
Oregon State scored three runs in the sixth inning, keyed by Zak Taylor's two-run double. The Beavers have outscored teams, 18-2, in the sixth this season.Â
Streaks Galore
Nick Madrigal, Trevor Larnach, Cadyn Grenier, Christian Donahue and KJ Harrison all finished with at least one hit in Saturday's game, and each extended significant hit streaks. Madrigal will carry a 12-game streak into Sunday – he's two shy of a career-long 14-gamer in 2016 – while Larnach is at nine games. Donahue's one hit put him at seven ganes. Grenier, meanwhile, pushed his to five games, and Harrison will be at four games heading into the finale.
Best Through 20
Oregon State kept pace with the 1962 and 2013 teams for the best record through 20 games, at 19-1.Â
5-0 In The Pac
Oregon State is 5-0 to start conference play for the first time since 2005 when the Beavers, that season, took their first five in Pac-10 action, sweeping California and taking the first two from Stanford. The 2005 club lost its sixth game in Pac-10 play, 4-3. OSU has not gone 6-0 to open conference play since the then-Pac-10 unified in 1999.
Singles
• OSU is 15-0 when scoring first.Â
