Beavers head to Willamette Invitational
March 23, 2017 | Women's Track & Field
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State track & field team heads to Salem on Saturday for the Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational.
The meet will be held at McCulloch Stadium in Salem; the hammer throw will be contested at nearby 1850 Oxford St, behind the Math Learning Center. Feld events begin at 9:30 a.m. with the shot put and long jump; track events start at 11:30 a.m. with the 400-meter relay.
Â
OSU will have no entrants in any individual race longer than 800 meters. The distance crew will train through the weekend to prepare for the upcoming San Francisco State Distance Carnival (March 31) and the Stanford Invitational (March 31-April 1).
Â
The Beavers opened the outdoor season last weekend by winning the team title and eight events at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open at Portland, and by taking first place in the hammer and third place in the discus at the Lane CC Preview at Eugene.
Led by redshirt sophomore sprinter Venessa D'Arpino, they posted nine all-time top-10 times or marks at the two meets. D'Arpino had the No. 5 all-time clocking in the 200 (24.58) and 400 (56.86), despite the inclement conditions.
Their next competition in Oregon is the John Knight Twilight Meet at Western Oregon on April 7. Their only home appearance of the year is the April 28-29 OSU High Performance Meet, at the Whyte Track and Field Center.
