
Beavers Headed for NCAA Champaign Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The 2017 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships regional selections were announced Monday afternoon by the NCAA. Oregon State, which has reached the regional round of championships for the 43rd straight year, will travel to the midwest to compete in the NCAA Champaign Regional Championships hosted by the University of Illinois.
Six teams, four all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and two individual event specialist per event [who has a minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) of 9.4] were named to each of the six predetermined host sites (universities) – Fayetteville (Arkansas), Gainesville (Florida), Champaign (Illinois), Lincoln (Nebraska), Seattle (Washington) and Morgantown (West Virginia).
Joining No. 8 Oregon State (197.115 Regional Qualifying Score) at the Champaign Regional Sat., April 1 at 2 p.m. PT, will be No. 5 UCLA (197.500), No. 17 Iowa (196.510), No. 19 Illinois (196.365), No. 22 Eastern Michigan (195.970) and Ohio State (195.825).
It is the first time Oregon State has ever competed at Illinois.
The top 18-teams are seeded nationally, based on RQS, and placed into the bracket. Teams 19-36 are placed geographically at one of the six regional sites. Seeding determined at the time of regional selections will be maintained throughout the championships. All-around competitors and event specialists are assigned to their respective geographic region.
Individual all-around qualifiers for the 2017 NCAA Champaign Regional Championships are: Nicola Deans from Michigan State, Rachael Underwood and Anna Corbett from Western Michigan, and Ashley White from Centenary.
Individual event at-large qualifiers are: vault – Jovannah East and Lauren Feely, Bowling Green; bars – Jessie Peszek, Western Michigan and Hailee Westney, Michigan State; beam – Jessie Peszek, Western Michigan and Jovannah East, Bowling Green; and floor – Elena Lagoski and Kira Frederick, Michigan State.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in St. Louis, Mo., April 14-15, hosted by the University of Missouri, Columbia and the St. Louis Sports Commission. The top two teams from the Champaign, Fayetteville and Seattle regionals will compete in one of the semifinals, and the top two teams from the Gainesville, Lincoln and Morgantown regionals will compete in the other semifinal.
In addition, the event winners at each regional site will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier.
