McMillan Named Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year
March 18, 2017 | Women's Gymnastics
STANFORD, Calif. – Oregon State senior Kaytianna McMillan was named the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year Saturday night following the completion of the Pac-12 Championships meet.
Â
McMillan has enjoyed one of the greatest seasons in Oregon State history winning 24 event titles in 2017, the sixth-most in OSU single season history.
Â
The native of Coburg, Ore., McMillan completed the first perfect routine by an Oregon State gymnast since 2008 last week when she accomplished the feat on the uneven bars in a win over Illinois-Chicago. It was the first 10.0 on the bars for the Beavers since Elizabeth Jillson in 2003.
Â
In 2017, McMillan has set or tied career-highs on uneven bars (10.0), floor exercise (9.950) and in the all-around (39.650). Her all-around best, which she established last week against UIC, tied the third-highest score in program history.
Â
One of just nine gymnasts in Oregon State history to record a score of 9.90 or better on each apparatus in her career, McMillan has accomplished the feat in 2017 alone.
Â
She entered the conference championship meet ranked seventh in the nation in the all-around.
McMillan is the fifth OSU gymnast named as the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year award and the first since Leslie Mak received the second of back-to-back Gymnast of the Year honors in 2012.
Â
Oregon State will return to action Saturday, April 1 at NCAA Regional Championships at a site to be determined. The regional fields will be announced Monday at 1 p.m. PT via NCAA.com. Regional hosts are Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Nebraska, Washington and West Virginia.
Â
Oregon State Athletics and the gymnastics program will host a Selection Show Watch Party Monday in the Loge Level of Reser Stadium. The public is invited to join the Beaver gymnasts as they await their postseason fate with doors opening at 12:30 p.m.
